Medici Design Group

The Design Group
Medici Design Group/Marie Minnich Design is a unique group of designers, who specialize in medium to high-end custom projects, for savvy clientele who prefer sophisticated, timeless, classic design with authentic architectural finishes, rich fabrics, color with impact, and livable, refined furnishings.

As can be seen in the portfolio, each project is distinctly different and a reflection of the clients’ preferences, yet still reflects our underlying principles of harmony, authenticity and organization.

Design philosophy
Aesthetics: a Neo-Classical Approach
Working with a hand-picked team of experienced, local, world-class craftspeople/artisans, the Medici Design Group hallmark style is both simple and rich, classically harmonious interiors with meticulous attention to detail. Classical principles of organization, proportion and harmony are always at the forefront of our design approach. This approach is based on architectural detailing coupled with proportion and scale based on the ancient greek philosophy of sacred geometry.

Kitchens and foyers with natural travertine stone, baths showcasing custom sandblasted art on shower doors, complicated stone designs, custom cabinetry, exciting lighting accents handcrafted by glassblowers, rich textiles and deep color with impact, showcase the Medici Design Group style. Professional project management and product development enhance our approach.

Ethics: sustainability
Sustainable Design Concepts support global sustainable development. Design concepts that support environmentally responsible design may include bamboo floors, cork floors, natural recycled silk window panels, luxury organic linens, and/or programmable lighting/audio visual systems combined with motorized window treatment systems that enhance the heating and cooling of a building.

Universal Design
Universal design is a form of design that implements concepts to accommodate all ages and physicalities. Therefore, for example, a bathroom might be built to be handicap accessible from the ground up, yet also aesthetic enough to suit attractive design requirements. Universal Design promotes "Aging in Place", i.e., designing a home from the ground up to adapt to all ages of a client's life.

Artistic Visions
Creative. Experienced. Referenced. Degreed.

If life has anything do with design, Marie is fluent in it. The story begins with a love of art, instilled by her mother, who brought her to the Art Institute of Chicago every week as soon as she could walk. This early cultural indoctrination into the world of Art continued on throughout childhood, consequently helping to create a diverse lifetime background in decorative arts and visual design, professional work as an award-winning, corporate graphic artist, environmental designer, internet art director, web designer, fine artist, custom decorating department store decorator, retail shop owner, and finally, advanced degrees in Interior Design. This in turn, finally, translated into a residential, interior and small commercial design practice. Marie's strong background in the decorative arts, further enhances her creative design visions, and allows a multi-disciplinary approach to client solutions.

A Multi-disciplinary approach
In 2002, Medici Design Group/Marie Minnich Design launched as a design studio with a philosophy of merging aesthetics and ethics. Marie has hand-picked her team to complement a full-range of design activity. and is dedicated to employing local craftspeople.
