Art on El Paseo: Influence of Primitive Cultures on 20th Century Modernism

On January 2, 2005 while visiting family in Palm Springs, California, I had the good fortune to take my annual trek down El Paseo, the upscale shopping street in Palm Desert. There are many wonderful art galleries on El Paseo, and a brand new one that I stumbled into is Modern Masters/Fine Art at 73-200 El Paseo, Suite 3A.

At the time I was there, they had a spectacular Chagall exhibit with more original Chagalls than I had ever seen except in a museum.

One of their newest events, that ran from January 22 to February 8, 2005 features works of Picasso, Miro, Tamayo, Matta, Marini, Cuevas, Braque, Leger, and Ernst, presented in tandem with antiquities from Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

The correlation between Primitive Roots and 20th Century Modernism is so relevant as a design aesthetic to those of us involved in the world of design.
